Resumo: Based on the process-oriented approach to translation and on proposals for the application of translation tasks in translator training, this research aimed to investigate the process of translating a picturebook by a translator in training. The analysis focused on the possible inputs for translation, the distribution of time, and the nature of the phases of the translation process. The research was carried out in an experimental setting over three days, using the multi-methodological perspective of triangulation, with first- and third-person quantitative and qualitative data. The results show that the process of translating a picturebook in more than one day is marked by recursion, since the possible inputs (picture book, ST, and emergent TT) can be accessed on any day, and the TT produced and partially revised by the translator on a previous day has an emergent nature – it may aid in the planning of the TT of a later day, or be revised. Recognizing possible inputs therefore contributes to understanding the complexity of the process. Moreover, the phases of the translation process are intertwined, with a macro-phase of drafting that includes reorientations and partial draftings and revisions. Finally, the imbrication of the phases of the process means that their nature changes depending on the day of collection. Thus, the text is changeable, and translation strategies vary accordingly.
