Survey of specialized lexical units related to healing in medicinal treaties of colonial Brazil

This article aims to present a survey of the thematic lexicon concerning the domain of cure of diseases that affected the population in colonial Brazil, from the ‘term’ conception of the Communicative Theory of Terminology. Firstly, we used a glossary already existing in a work of the period, in order to collect the units related to the chosen domain. Then, we searched for their definitions offered in three dictionaries from the same period, and extracted the contexts of three documents from the 18th century, selected in the Database of the Dicionário Histórico do Português do Brasil - séculos XVI, XVII e XVIII. By comparing contexts and definitions, we noted that, although lexicographers have used linguistic marks in their entries, the context of use would be sufficient to recognize such units as terms.
