Resumo: | The purpose of this study is to present the relation between Translation and Terminology, focusing on the aspects of the training of future translators, as well as their professional practice in this field. Theoretical issues of Terminology are concentrated on the Communicative Theory of Terminology (CTT). Aspects related to the establishment of equivalents in the target text (TT) for terms found in the source text (ST), the identification of various forms for the same term and terminological neology are dealt with and exemplified. In addition, we seek to show the evaluation criteria of terminological products and their use in the choice of resources which help the translator with decision making. The use of this knowledge in the process of translation competence acquisition in disciplines of a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation is illustrated. We believe that Terminology training assists in the development of translation competence and its sub-competencies, thus making it a fundamental resource for translation, in the sense that it ensures quality for the translated text both from the linguistic and specialized points of view. |
