Resumo: Some practices in Science Education have become obsolete, due to the variety of information disseminated today in social networks. For this reason, ways of teaching centered on debates and knowledge exchange can be a viable path for the participatory construction of scientific knowledge in school spaces. In this context, the Popular Education in Sciences Project (PEPCiências) arises, with the aim of inviting different scientists and professionals to talk about various topics, with the perspective of popularizing Sciences from the recognition and appreciation of another social knowledge. In this text, the impressions of the monitors of this extension project are analyzed and discussed in the light of Popular Education and the volunteering of the invited workshops, with a view to the limits and potential of this action for other schools.

Por isso, formas de ensinar centradas nos debates e na troca de saberes podem ser um caminho viável para a construção participativa do conhecimento científico nos espaços de escolarização. Nesse contexto, surge o Projeto de Educação Popular em Ciências (PEPCiências), com o intuito de convidar diferentes cientistas e profissionais para conversar sobre temas variados, com a perspectiva da popularização das Ciências a partir do reconhecimento e valorização de outros saberes sociais.
