Popular Education in Health: conception for critical action in the face of the challenges of the decade of 2020

Resumo: In the field of health initiatives, Popular Education constitutes a social work, in which action is guided by dialogue, sharing of knowledge committed to social transformation, based on utopias as equal rights for all, and human, social and material emancipation. Each day, the theoretical and practical production from the experiences of Popular Education in Health (EPS) is qualified. Thus, a theoretical field becomes evident as a theory of social work in health; a conception raised to epistemology with ethical, theoretical and methodological principles. In this essay, we will share reflections on EPS, pointing out provocations in order to feed the debate and self-assessment thinking of the protagonists of EPS movements and practices across the country in the face of the demanding challenges of the next decade. Among the aspects developed, the following stand out: the centrality of the insistence on the promotion and improvement of popular participation in daily health care; the ethical, political and epistemological dimension of EPS to act in health; the need to transcend methodologicalism; and EPS in the face of ultraliberalism and ultraconservationism in society and public spaces.

A cada dia, qualifica-se a produção teórica e prática provinda das experiências de Educação Popular em Saúde (EPS). Assim, vai se evidenciando um campo teórico como uma teoria do trabalho social em saúde; uma concepção alçada à epistemologia, possuidora de princípios éticos, teóricos e metodológicos. No presente ensaio, compartilharemos reflexões sobre a EPS, apontando provocações com o intuito de alimentar o debate e o pensamento autoavaliativo dos protagonistas dos movimentos e das práticas de EPS em todo o país ante os exigentes desafios da próxima década.
