Culture Circle and school Physical Education: de-colonial inspirations in Paulo Freire

Resumo: The aim of this study was to verify how the Circle of Culture inspired by Paulo Freire’s decolonial vision is being used in the pedagogical practice of the Physical Education curriculum component. The culture circle is a didactic and methodological strategy that was conceived and formatted to teach adults to read and write in a context of Popular Education, conceived here on the experience in Brazil. It is noteworthy that this study refers to a theoretical essay, starting with the reading of scientific articles and books available in the Physical Education literature. We conclude that our inspiration in Paulo Freire’s decolonial vision is common to identify that the area of ​​Physical Education makes little use of the proposal of the culture circle, either as an intervention approach or as a practical organization. Thus, the five articles that dealt with the circle of culture did not use Freire’s decolonial concept in the texts, however there was an explanation in the works on the Freirean concepts of dialogue, awareness and effective participation of students in the reinvention of new bodily practices, experienced in a context of Popular Education, demonstrating that Freire’s legacy contributes to the didactic organization of school Physical Education classes.

Trata-se de uma estratégia didática e metodológica que foi idealizada inicialmente visando alfabetizar adultos em um contexto de educação popular, aqui concebida na experiência do Brasil. Cabe ressaltar que este estudo se refere a um ensaio teórico, iniciado com a leitura de artigos científicos e livros disponíveis na literatura de Educação Física. Concluímos que nossa inspiração na visão decolonial de Paulo Freire permitiu identificar que a área utiliza pouco a proposta do Círculo de Cultura, seja como tratativa de intervenção ou de organização prática.
