Resumo: This essay is an exercise that aims to reflect on the possibilities to develop a culture of participation at school from Paulo Freire. First, it characterizes the participation concept in a general context and an educational context. Then, a dialogue with the ethical, critical, and political comprehension of education by Paulo Freire is done. The concepts of engagement, mobilization, democracy and citizenships in his legacy are highlighted. Finally, we problematize the school context to propitiate reflections that could transform this context into a citizenship perspective. It assumes the importance of reviewing the conception of school, educational goal, pedagogical perspective adopted in learning-teaching practices, and how the student is seen.

Para tanto, caracteriza inicialmente a noção de participação em um contexto mais geral e também na educação em específico, e, posteriormente, trava um diálogo com a compreensão ético-crítico-político de educação de Paulo Freire, destacando seus aportes sobre participação, engajamento, mobilização, democracia e cidadania.
