Resumo: In this essay, considerations are made about the process of democratization of higher education, in the interface with the attacks perpetrated against the work and thought of Paulo Freire and with the knowledge gestated in the political movement of affirmation and visibility of his legacy. To this end, a bibliographical survey of the production of researchers linked to the GT6 of Popular Education at ANPEd was carried out. As a result, it was observed that the attacks carried out on the work and memory of the educator Paulo Freire intend to block the process of democratization of higher education. The analysis of the bibliographic production of Popular Education reveals that the realization of the right to higher education requires the assumption of the university's commitment to popular demands, implying a political formation of educators, the consolidation of educational practices based on dialogicity, in the unity in diversity and in the problematization of the realities and experience knowledge of the subjects involved in the learning-and-teaching processes.
