Knowledge about Popular Health Education in Physiotherapy students at Federal University of Pernambuco

Resumo: Popular Education in Health (PEH) is important for the empowerment of citizens in relation to their health. However, there seems to be an abyss related to communication between health professionals and the population. This study aims to identify the knowledge of Physical Therapy students at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) about PEH. This is a qualitative study in which students with an active link in the Physiotherapy course at UFPE were recruited. Participants were instructed to read the inducing theme “PEH” and associate the first five words that came to their mind. The data collection was carried out remotely through the Google Forms platform and analyzed by the Iramuteq software. The final sample consisted of 49 students from all ten periods of the course. The words most cited by the students were: “prevention”, “Unified Health System (SUS)”, “I don't know/I don't remember”, “knowledge” and “collective health”. Therefore, although future physiotherapists have contact and recognize the PEH theme, the terms associated with it are still presented in a reductionist way. The results point to the need for strategies that can foster knowledge of PEH as means of achieving social transformation.

O presente estudo objetiva analisar o conhecimento dos discentes do curso de Fisioterapia na Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) acerca da EPS. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo em que discentes com vínculo ativo no curso foram recrutados. Os participantes foram orientados a ler o tema indutor “EPS” e associar as cinco primeiras palavras que lhe vinham à mente. A coleta das informações foi realizada de forma remota, por meio da plataforma Google Forms e analisadas pelo software Iramuteq. A amostra final foi composta por 49 discentes de todos os dez períodos do curso. As palavras mais citadas pelos discentes foram: “prevenção”, “Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS)”, “não sei/não lembro”, “conhecimento” e “saúde coletiva”. Diante disso, apesar dos futuros fisioterapeutas terem contato e reconhecerem a temática da EPS, os termos associados a ela ainda se apresentam de uma forma reducionista.
