THE NARRATIVES OF CAROLINA DE JESUS IN QUARTO DE DESPEJO: FROM CITY WRITINGS TO GEOGRAPHIC EDUCATION

Resumo: The narratives of Carolina de Jesus in Quarto de Despejo: Diário de uma favelada are a useful source for thinking about the city and its places as they contribute to the deepening of the research field in geographic education, both from an ontological and epistemological perspective. To do so, this article uses the literary text as a methodological option to enhance other ways of investigating the city, with repercussions in the process of geographic education. To this end, the work was chosen with the purpose to reflect on the writings of the city and the treatment with geographic education and it is conceived in a comprehensive proposition of interpretive basis. The analysis reveals that the geographies narrated in Quarto de Despejo entangle urban lives, intersect spaces, and dimension formative movements that permeate everyday life in marginalized spaces. This literature truly registers the spatiality of the slum and expresses the resistance, the living, and the personal-spatial experience of the person who narrates, reverberating as a useful element of formative composition to conceive geographic education.

Em virtude disso, este artigo aciona o texto literário como opção metodológica para potencializar outros modos de investigações sobre a cidade, com repercussões no processo de educação geográfica. Para tanto, a obra elegida para fins de reflexões sobre os escritos da cidade e o trato com a educação geográfica concebe-se numa propositura compreensiva de base interpretativa. A análise revela que as geografias narradas em Quarto de despejos enredam vidas urbanas, entrecruzam espaços e dimensionam movimentos formativos que permeiam a vida cotidiana nos espaços marginalizados.
