Destabilizing ideas about gender and sexual diversity in a youth and adult education group: analysis of an experience

This study presents and analyzes the results of a teaching proposal on gender and sexual diversity, conducted in a Youth and Adult Education group during the evening classes at a municipal public school in Jequié-BA, developed over the course of a school unit (two months) in 2013. Topics such as gender, intersexuality, the transsexual universe and homophobia were discussed using participatory didactic strategies. At the end of the study, in spite of some resistance, the group recognized the difficulty of making a break with normative processes and labeling and the relevance of recognizing differences and of not repeating discriminatory processes. This experience also proved that sex education in schools need not be unfeasible or uninvolved.
