Between teaching and prison: the university extension

This article presents the results of the "New Horizons Extension Program: the university in deprivation of liberty spaces" started in 2016 at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC). The program developed the following actions: 1) Include Project; 2) Shared training in the context of prison education; 3) Library as a socio-cultural and educational space of the penal units and 4) I International Seminar of Art and Prison Education. It is hoped to report and analyze the Shared Training action developed in 2017, through a university extension course aimed at teachers and social workers working in the prison system of Greater Florianópolis and South of the state of Santa Catarina. With this action, the permanent challenges of these professionals in establishing the confrontation with the norms of the institutions in order to develop their activities were verified; the need to foster dialogue between multiprofessional teams and the absence of permanent public policies to help ensure the right to education for persons deprived of their liberty in the prison system.
