The democratization of management within a municipal public school

Resumo: This paper discusses democratic management in daily school life. Among its research questions: does the construction of the democratization of school management favour the transformation of the social reality? The study is intended to analyze the process of democratization of public-school management. The methodology is based on the perspective of historical and dialectical materialism, through which it is possible to describe and analyze the concrete reality of educational phenomena. Questionnaires have been used and applied to pedagogical coordinators, a school principal, and a teachers’ representative in the School Board of a municipal public institution. Results show that the process of democratization of school management, which has been observed in school, is insufficient to promote the strengthening of the community for the construction of a school that identifies itself with the interests of the popular classes.

El problema de investigación fue: ¿la construcción de la democratización de la gestión de la escuela favorece la transformación de la realidad social? El estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el proceso de democratización de la gestión escolar pública. La metodología se basó en la perspectiva del materialismo histórico y dialéctico, en el que es posible describir y analizar la realidad concreta de los fenómenos educacionales. Se utilizaron cuestionarios, los cuales fueron aplicados a la coordinación pedagógica, al gestor escolar y al representante de docentes en el Consejo Escolar de una escuela pública municipal. Los resultados mostraron que el proceso de democratización de la gestión en la escuela observada es insuficiente para promover el fortalecimiento de la comunidad para la construcción de una escuela identificada con los intereses de las clases populares.Esse artigo discute sobre a gestão democrática no cotidiano escolar. O problema da investigação foi: a construção da democratização da gestão da escola favorece a transformação da realidade social?
