Resumo: Este artigo apresentará um recorte de um estudo comparativo realizado sobre bibliotecas escolares entre Uberlândia (Minas Gerais - Brasil) e Lyon (França). Foram aplicados questionários em 2012 a estudantes (6-10 anos) e professores. Os dados demonstram que as bibliotecas escolares não facilitam aos estudantes uberlandenses e lyoneses a inserção no mundo da cultura escrita, por causa de seu modo de funcionamento.
