Geopolitics in Secondary Level Education: a geography-related field

Resumo: | It is believed that geopolitics can play a prominent role in secondary level education when it comes to thinking critically. Therefore, it is worth reflecting upon the way it is approached. The delimitation, definition, and role of geopolitics as found on the curriculum of secondary students are covered in this study. This motivated this article, which was based on a bibliographic rescue and analysis of documents that guide the high school in Brazil. The ability to understand the strategic organization of space, the positioning of productivestructures, basic industry and military artefacts, and the development of technologies for the obtainment and spreading of strategic information are typical features of geopolitics which indicate its geography-related importance. In addition to the power relationships between States, the contemporary international system, has shown significant changes in its international agenda and among its players. This scenario makes the geopolitics of teaching in high school even more relevant. |

Comprender la organización estratégica del espacio, la ubicación de las estructuras productivas, las bases militares y los artefactos, la inversión en el desarrollo tecnológico para obtener y difundir información estratégica, son aspectos inherentes a la geopolítica y refuerzan su base íntimamente geográfica. Además de la relación de poder establecida entre los estados, el sistema internacional contemporáneo ha mostrado cambios significativos en su agenda internacional y entre sus protagonistas. Tal escenario refleja la relevancia del contenido de la geopolítica en la escuela secundaria.Este artigo, que se baseou em um resgate bibliográfico e na análise de documentos que orientam o ensino médio no Brasil, foi motivado por entender que a geopolítica no currículo do ensino médio ocupa papel de destaque na construção do senso crítico do educando e merece algumas reflexões sobre sua abordagem. A delimitação, definição e o papel da geopolítica na formação dos estudantes do ensino médio, constituem partes do presente trabalho. Compreender a organização estratégica do espaço, a localização das estruturas produtivas, das bases e artefatos militares, o investimento no desenvolvimento tecnológico para obtenção e difusão de informações estratégicas, são aspectos inerentes à geopolítica e reforçam sua base intimamente geográfica. Além da relação de poder estabelecida entre os Estados, o sistema internacional contemporâneo tem apresentado significativas mudanças em sua agenda internacional e entre seus protagonistas.
