Resumo: This study has its focus on the work of reading texts in a school environment, specifically in Elementary School II. It aims to report and to analyze the application of a reference matrix of reading skills and abilities as a pedagogical support to help Portuguese language teachers of this cycle of education, to diagnose in their students relevant reading skills that need to be developed, in order to make of students more proficient readers. The theoretical framework conceives reading in a cognitive and socio- inter-rational perspective (Solé, 1998; KLEIMAN, 2006; KOCH, ELIAS, 2012, SOUZA, 2016) and the school teaching by competences (BONAMINO, 2002; MACEDO, 2005; ZABALA, 2010). The research is basically characterized as field, bibliographic, descriptive, experimental and analytical and was carried out in 2016 with teachers and students of a private school in the city of Londrina. The results demonstrated, through empirical evidence, the contribution of the proposal to the diagnosis and improvement of student reading competence.

Tem por objetivos relatar e analisar a aplicação de uma proposta de matriz de referência de competências e habilidades em leitura como suporte pedagógico para auxiliar professores de Língua Portuguesa, desse ciclo de escolaridade, a diagnosticar em seus alunos habilidades leitoras relevantes que precisam ser desenvolvidas, a fim de tornar os estudantes leitores mais proficientes. O aporte teórico concebe a leitura numa perspectiva cognitiva e sociointeracional (SOLÉ, 1998; KLEIMAN, 2006; KOCH, ELIAS, 2012, SOUZA, 2016) e o ensino escolar por competências (BONAMINO, 2002; MACEDO, 2005; ZABALA, 2010). A pesquisa caracteriza-se, basicamente, como de campo, bibliográfica, descritiva, experimental e analítica e foi realizada em 2016 junto a professores e alunos de um colégio particular da cidade de Londrina.
