BRASaLIA: UMA METRÓPOLE SINGULAR NO CENTRO-OESTE BRASILEIRO

Resumo O objetivo deste texto é analisar as características socioeconômicas da unidade territorial de Brasília e entorno, institucionalizada recentemente como uma região metropolitana ou Região Integrada de Desenvolvimento Econômico (RIDE). Procura-se resgatar os legados históricos deste processo, buscando evidenciar a natureza singular desta que é não só a capital federal do Brasil, mas o maior assentamento urbano do Centro-Oeste. Ao mesmo tempo que se discute a sua inserção econômica regional e a sua especialização administrativa, são destacadas as assimetrias da sua configuração territorial e os desafios da política pública no que tange ao desenvolvimento futuro desse aglomerado urbano-regional. Abstract The goal of this paper is to analyse the social and economic characteristics of the territorial unity of Brasília and surroundings, which was recently institutionalized as a metropolitan region or Integrated Region of Economic Development (IRED). The idea is to incorporate the historical aspects of this process and to shed light to the singular nature of this city, which is not only the capital of Brazil, but also the largest urban settlement in the Center-West region of Brazil. At the same time that we discuss its regional economic participation and administrative specialization, we emphasize the asymmetries presented in this territorial configuration and the public policy challenges regarding the future development of this urban-regional agglomerate.
