Resumo: To investigate adherence to drug and non-drug treatment in individuals diagnosed with SAH and to characterize the study population in terms of sociodemographic, economic and clinical variables. Methodology: An observational, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was carried out with the collection of data from 237 participants in the emergency room, medical clinic, specialty outpatient clinic and surgical clinic 1 and 2 of Hospital de Clínicas de Uberlândia. The sociodemographic characterization was carried out using a data collection instrument developed by the researchers. To assess adherence to drug and non-drug treatment against SAH, the QATHAS instrument was used. The respondents' heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and blood pressure were also measured. Results: It was observed that 53.6% of the participants were men, 65.8% were elderly and 55.3% were not white. In addition, 13.5% were smokers, 15.1% were alcoholics and 64.9% did not practice physical activity. The most prevalent chronic diseases, after SAH, were dyslipidemia (38.3%) and diabetes mellitus (32.9%). The three most used drugs were angiotensin receptor antagonists (60.8%), diuretics (48.9%) and beta-blockers (37.1%). Regarding adherence to treatment, measured by the QATHAS, the average found was 90. The factors that most influenced adherence were advanced age, the habit of practicing physical activity and not consuming beverages. Conclusion: Most hypertensive patients are male, with black or brown skin color, elderly, with low education and income. In addition, they have a high rate of physical inactivity and partial adherence to treatment, forgetting the medication at least once a month and reducing only half of the recommended consumption of sodium, sweets, sugary drinks and fats. It was observed that the elderly, people who practice physical activity daily and who do not consume alcoholic beverages have greater adherence to treatment.
