Fifteen years ago, the use of translation memory systems (TMS) was still an inviting possibility for translators, and much research was done on the advantages and disadvantages of using such systems. With the emergence of the internet and technological advances, such systems have gained visibility and became essential for the insertion of the translator in the job market. Currently the focus of research has changed and what is being discussed is the product of these systems - the translation memory (TM), how they are constructed, managed, and particularly how the use of these memories intervenes in the productivity and quality of the translation. This work consists of an empirical-descriptive research that evaluates possible methods of creating translation memories integrating translation technologies and the study with corpus, in order to create new possibilities for memory construction using a parallel corpus. The results show that the free alignment tool of Wordfast Anywhere Translation System is able to construct a TM using parallel corpora and that such TM can aid in the translation of specific texts of a given area, here was constructed a Transactional Analysis TM, a specific area of psychology. This study also emphasizes that these systems and memories need to be used under the translator’s critical eye, warning him or her about the indiscriminate use and excessive confidence in its results. A secondary result of this research shows in detail the construction and use of a TM in Wordfast Anywhere, aiming at contributing to the use of parallel corpora in the creation of TM of different areas.
