A onda neoconservadora e a “ideologia de gênero” – posicionamentos e enfrentamentos da Psicologia

In recent years, Brazil and several countries in Latin America have experienced the rise of the neoconservative wave, with transnational mechanisms that share the same guidelines, discourses and anti-gender agenda and mark a new political moment in the region. While that occurs at the macro level, the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP), openly committed to social movements, human rights, democratic ethics, and social transformation since the country's re-democratization period, is politically active against the downfall of rights and dismantling of public policies. This monograph, defined in the format of an essay, aims to analyze the CFP's position towards the offensives orchestrated by the country's neoconservative sectors over the last 20 years against the rights of women and the LGBTQIA+ population, which attack the regulatory, guiding and supervision capacity of the psychologist’s class. From a historical-social approach, this monograph returns to the origin of the rhetorical device of “gender ideology” in the Vatican and the articulations with the Evangelical Church and secular associations, using this syntagma as a political strategy in the construction of the anti-gender agenda against the feminist and LGBTQIA+ movements. The discussion is constructed based on how these offensives were formed in the country until they became personified in the Bolsonaro’s government and how they present themselves as a challenge and threat to our professional practice based on social commitment and secularism. Dimensioning the trajectory of the CFP's political positioning and all the argument over its guidelines reminds us of the need for organized articulation so the Council can continue resisting.
