Resumo: | In Brazil, it is estimated that the consumption of cooking oil generates an inadequate disposal of the product of about 700 million liters per year, which represents a great potential for contamination of water resources and impact on the environment, in addition to spending on the maintenance of the sewage network and water treatment. Due to the characteristics of oil residues, when dumped in lakes and rivers, they waterproof the soil, beds and adjacent land, contributing to the formation of odors and the occurrence of floods. One strategy to minimize environmental damage and apply recycling is the production of soap through the reuse of residual frying oil. With the expansion of the consumption of edible vegetable oils and the generation of waste, this alternative proved to be effective for being easy to produce and low cost, in addition to promoting awareness of the population about proper disposal and adding economic value to the waste. In view of the above, the development of this study aimed to carry out a literature review about the production of soap with residual frying oil as the main raw material, the main environmental impacts caused by improper disposal were discussed, in addition to the analysis of the economic feasibility of producing it. With the development of this work, it was noticed that the soap produced from residual frying oil is a cheap resource product, which in addition to generating environmental and economic benefits, such as the reduction of costs in water and sewage treatments, can also contribute to income generation and social inclusion, especially in socially vulnerable regions. |
