The lack of adequate housing conditions is one of the main problems facing the world population. In Brazil, the housing deficit is very present and persists for years. In 2009, the federal government created the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program (PMCMV) to stop this social problem by subsidizing low-income families. To meet this demand, it is necessary to adopt efficient, economical and rationalized construction systems. The objective of this work is to conduct a comparative study between the concrete and conventional masonry construction systems as feasible constructive processes for the construction of social housing. As methodology, cost sheets were prepared for a project in conventional masonry and concrete walls and the costs for the execution of each work were compared. From the data found, the results were analyzed allowing the comparison of costs between the concrete wall systems and the conventional masonry system. Verifying that the execution of housing units of social interest produced in the system of concrete walls have a lower cost compared to the same ones produced in the conventional system.
