O componente curricular de Biologia Marinha e suas implicações na formação do bacharel e licenciado em Ciências Biológicas

The Universities have the mission to promote the critical, personal and political thinking, as well as to prepare professionals capable of acting in the search for quality between human and the environment in which he finds himself. The formation of the Biologist, currently able to work in more than 80 areas already regulated - many of which cover coastal and marine ecosystems - should be promoted by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), by providing a curriculum and knowledge necessary for their effective performance. HEIs are free to make the composition of undergraduate curricula that compacts with the environment in which they are inserted. However, such composition may affect the Biologist and restrict his participation in certain areas due to the fragmentation of the content of Marine Biology, for example. The present work aims to investigate the relevance of the optional Marine Biology curriculum component in a university not bathed by the coast, but which forms professionals to work in any ecosystem. Through the analysis of curriculum and Pedagogical Project, and applying a questionnaire to undergraduate students and still in the course at the Federal University of Uberlândia, we could observe difficulties in requesting and participating of undergraduate students considering the curricular component analyzed. Such problem can hinder their learning and impair their formation, implying a lack of preparation for their action when dealing, for example, with the conservation and maintenance of coastal and marine ecosystems. Thus, the need to enable access to the content is suggested through curriculum components as well as through short courses and similar offered by the institution.
