Resumo: Sport as a socio-cultural phenomenon encompasses physical and competitive activities for recreational, educational or professional purposes. School sports must pass through a pedagogical perspective, so that we do not only reproduce it, it is essential to reflect on sports in a broad and generalized way in all its areas of coverage, competition is one of them, and we know how it is already rooted in our classes so that we can not deny how important it is for the learning of children. The goal of this study is to identify the motivation of the students to engage in competitive school sports projects. The data was collected from students aged 11 to 17 who participated in team sports at the Minas Gerais School Games in 2018. We concluded that school competitions and sports competence are the main motivational factors for the students surveyed.

O esporte escolar deve passar por um olhar pedagógico, para que não apenas o reproduzamos, é essencial refletirmos sobre o esporte de forma ampla e generalizada em todas suas áreas de abrangência, a competição é uma delas, e sabemos como ela já está enraizada em nossas aulas de modo que não podemos negar o quão importante ela é para o aprendizado das crianças. O objetivo deste estudo é identificar os motivos que levam os alunos a se envolverem em projetos esportivos escolares com finalidades competitivas. Os dados foram coletados com alunos de 11 a 17 anos que participaram em esportes coletivos dos Jogos Escolares de Minas Gerais no ano de 2018.
