Building bridges: the construction of popsicle sticks bridges in basic education as an incentive to access higher education

Resumo: | It is extremely important to encourage public school students to learn about and continue their studies in higher education, since many students, upon completing basic education, feel unmotivated or uncertain about continuing their education. Therefore, the extension project Construindo Pontes of the Federal University of Viçosa held a competition for popsicle stick bridges, together with the Viçosa city's municipal schools. Classes exposed basic points of the Civil Engineering and Architecture courses, along with guidelines for the construction of bridges. At the end of the competition, the bridge rupture ceremony was held, and possible causes of ruptures and ways to increase the efficiency of the bridges were discussed. It was possible to carry out the extension between the knowledge acquired in the Civil Engineering and Architecture courses with primary school students from Viçosa, enabling the exchange of knowledge and access to a new world of perspectives and opportunities. |

En este sentido, el proyecto de ampliación Construindo Pontes de la Universidad Federal de Viçosa realizó un concurso de puentes de palitos de helado, junto con las escuelas municipales de la ciudad de Viçosa-MG. Clases expusieron puntos básicos de la carrera de Ingeniería Civil y Arquitectura y también orientaciones para la construcción de los puentes. Al finalizar el evento se realizó la ceremonia de ruptura de puentes, y también discusiones de las posibles causas de rupturas y formas de aumentar la eficiencia de los puentes. Fue posible promover la extensión entre los conocimientos adquiridos en el curso de Ingeniería Civil y Arquitectura con alumnos de primaria de Viçosa, posibilitando el intercambio de conocimientos y el acceso a un nuevo mundo de perspectivas y oportunidades.É de suma importância incentivar os alunos de escolas públicas a conhecerem e continuarem os estudos no ensino superior, visto que muitos deles, ao concluírem o ensino básico, sentem-se desmotivados ou incertos sobre a continuação de sua educação. Desta forma, o projeto de extensão Construindo Pontes da Universidade Federal de Viçosa realizou um concurso de pontes de palito de picolé, em conjunto com as escolas públicas da cidade de Viçosa — MG. Aulas expositivas expuseram pontos básicos dos cursos de Engenharia Civil e Arquitetura e Urbanismo, além de orientações para a construção das pontes. Ao final do concurso, foi realizada a cerimônia de rompimento das pontes e discussão das possíveis causas dos rompimentos e formas de se aumentar a eficiência das pontes.
