Dance and participation: the case of men students of the degree course in physical education UFV/CAF

Resumo: Social and cultural stereotypes make it difficult for men to participate in dance. Thus, the present study aims to understand the limitations and motivations for the participation of male students of the Degree in Physical Education at the Federal University of Viçosa - Campus Florestal (UFV-CAF) in the Projeto Movimento e Saúde-#Dance/UFV and understand their conceptions of dance. A semi-structured questionnaire sent via e-mail to the participants was used for further qualitative analysis of the responses. Although many students recognize the importance of working on the content of dance, the lack of confidence presents itself as a barrier for them to teach a class on the subject. Despite historical and social barriers,prejudice did not appear in the results as a limiting factor for most of the interviewees, leading to reflection on otherpossibilities, such as publicizing the project and the time that it occurred, after the course's shift.

Así, el presente estudiotiene como objetivo comprender las limitaciones y motivaciones para la participación de estudiantes varones de la Licenciatura en Educación Física de la Universidad Federal de Viçosa - Campus Florestal (UFV-CAF) en el ProjetoMovimento e Saúde-#Dance/UFV y entender sus concepciones de la danza. Se utilizó un cuestionario semiestructurado enviado por correo electrónico a los participantes para un análisis cualitativo adicional de las respuestas. Aunque muchosestudiantes reconocen la importancia de trabajar el contenido de la danza, la falta de confianza se presenta como unabarrera para que puedan impartir una clase sobre el tema. A pesar de las barreras históricas y sociales, el prejuicio noapareció en los resultados como un factor limitante para la mayoría de los entrevistados, lo que llevó a reflexionar sobre otras posibilidades, como la divulgación del proyecto y el momento en que ocurrió, después del turno del curso.Estereótipos sociais e culturais dificultam a participação masculina na dança. Desta forma, o presenteestudo tem como objetivos entender as limitações e motivações para a participação de estudantes homens do curso de Licenciatura em Educação Física da Universidade Federal de Viçosa - Campus Florestal (UFV-CAF) no Projeto Movimento e Saúde-#Dance/UFV e compreender as concepções de dança dos mesmos. Utilizou-se um questionário semiestruturado enviado via e-mail aos participantes, para posterior analise qualitativa das respostas. Apesar de muitos estudantes reconhecerem a importância de se trabalhar o conteúdo da dança, a falta de segurança se apresenta como barreira para que ministrem uma aula sobre o tema.
