Extension actions integrated into university teaching: development of composters for environmental education practices

Resumo: | The extension project was intended to help schools in the city of Passos, Minas Gerais, which needed help to produce organic compounds for their gardens. In this way, integrating knowledge from their disciplines, Agronomy graduates developed prototype compost bins that were donated to schools. Workshops and conferences were given to primary and secondary school students, so that they could not only manipulate the donated compost bins, but also build new models. In each school, samples of the material produced were taken and chemical analyzes were carried out. Subsequently, high school students received instructions from agronomy students to carry out the application in school gardens. The schoolchildren realized that with vermicomposting it is possible to reduce the sending of waste to landfills, and favor the development of circular economy systems in cities, safely returning nutrients to the environment. |

De esta manera, integrando conocimientos de sus disciplinas, los egresados ??de Agronomía desarrollaron prototipos de composteras que fueron donadas a escuelas. Se impartieron talleres y conferencias a estudiantes de primaria y secundaria, para que no sólo pudieran manipular los contenedores de abono donados, sino también construir nuevos modelos. En cada escuela se tomaron muestras del material producido y se realizaron análisis químicos. Posteriormente, los estudiantes de secundaria recibieron instrucciones de estudiantes de agronomía para realizar la aplicación en huertos escolares. Los escolares se dieron cuenta de que con el vermicompostaje es posible reducir el envío de residuos a los vertederos, y favorecer el desarrollo de sistemas de economía circular en las ciudades, devolviendo nutrientes al medio ambiente de forma segura.O projeto de extensão objetivou atender escolas do município de Passos, Minas Gerais, que necessitavam de auxílio para produção de compostos orgânicos para suas hortas. Dessa forma, integrando conhecimentos de suas disciplinas, graduandos em Agronomia desenvolveram protótipos de composteiras que foram doadas para escolas. Foram ministradas oficinas e palestras aos estudantes de ensino fundamental e médio, para que os mesmos pudessem não só manipular as composteiras doadas, bem como construir novos modelos. Em cada escola foram retiradas amostras do material produzido e realizadas análises químicas. Posteriormente, os alunos do ensino médio receberam as instruções dos discentes de agronomia para realizarem a aplicação nas hortas escolares.
