Resumo: | The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of the consumption of a caffeinated sports drink (CSD) and of an advertising carbohydrate drink (ACD) on performance in physico-motor skill tests. Eighteen athletes participated in two games: in one, they ingested CSD (250 mg.l-1 of caffein), and in the other they consumed ACD. Before and after each match the athletes were submitted to physico- motor tests (Illinois Agility Run, vertical jump -Sargent Jump). Twenty minutes before the match, the athletes consumed 5 ml.kg-1 body weight (BW) and 3 ml.kg-1 BW at of drink 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes of game. Blood samples were collected for glucose (GLC), lactate (LAC), caffeine plasma levels (CPL), potassium (K+) and free fatty acids (FFA) analysis. Urine samples were collected for the caffeine urine (CU) and urine density (UD) analysis. Heart rate (HR) and rate perception effort (RPE) were registered every 5 minutes of game. The results indicated that the treatments differed significantly in terms of the hydration balance. As CSD caused higher BW lost percentage, dehydration degree, relative dehydration, absolute dehydration and higher perspiration rate (PR). There was no statistical difference in UD and in the volume of urine produced during the match. CSD lead to a lower fluid replenishment (75,0 13,3%) than ACD (82,5 ± 13,7%). GLC and LAC were significantly higher in CSD than in ACD. K+ concentration at the end of the game decreased significantly after the ingestion of both types of drinks (p < 0,01) compared to the beginning at the match. However, there was no significant difference between CSD and ACD in K+ concentration before and after the game (p = 0,99; p = 0,47, respectively). FFA concentration was not significantly different between in groups at the beginning (p=0,08) and at the end (p = 0,49) of the matches. CSD lead to a significant increase in CPL and CU values during the match. CF differed significantly during the match with the ingestion of both drinks; CSD lead to higher CF compared to ACD. There was no significant difference in EPI during the game between the tested drinks. CSD significantly increased the height reached in the jump comparing that observed before its consumption and in comparison with ACD (p < 0,01 e p = 0,02) , respectively. Neither CSD nor ACD were not able to improve the performance in the agility test (p = 0,95). In conclusion, CSD lead to a greater impact on the soccer players ́ hydration balance than ACD probably because it resulted in a higher PR. CSD lead to increased GLC, LAC, CPL, CU and CF. On the other hand, CSD did not affect FFA, K+, and EPI. CSD caused an ergogenic effect on the soccer player lower . Therefore, the member power, how consumption of CSD is recommended, since it did not cause significant physiological effects on the hydration balance and was capable at increasing GLC availability and the power of the lower members of the soccer players. |
