The nature of (pseudo)science and science education: a necessary conversation

Resumo: The present essay proposes to critically analyze the discourse of pseudoscience in contemporary society and what are the possibilities of constituting a critical scientific education. The current pandemic period strengthens the need for this discussion, in view of the large amount of fallacious and biased information that has been and is propagated every day about scientific practices. How to think about a scientific education that can shield itself from the deleterious effects of pseudoscientific practices? Finally, we believe in an education that can understand science not only as regulatory knowledge, but as emancipatory knowledge.

El actual período de pandemia refuerza la necesidad de esta discusión, en vista de la gran cantidad de información falaz y sesgada que se ha propagado y se propaga todos los días sobre las prácticas científicas. ¿Cómo pensar una educación científica que pueda blindarse contra los efectos deletéreos de las prácticas pseudocientíficas? Finalmente, creemos en una educación que pueda entender la ciencia no sólo como un saber normativo, sino como un saber emancipador.O presente ensaio se propõe a analisar, criticamente, o discurso da pseudociência na sociedade contemporânea e descrever sobre as possibilidades de constituição de uma educação científica crítica. O atual período pandêmico fortalece a necessidade desta discussão, tendo em vista a grande quantidade de informações falaciosas e tendenciosas que foram e são propagadas todos os dias acerca das práticas científicas. Como pensar em uma educação científica que possa blindar-se dos efeitos deletérios das atitudes pseudocientíficas?
