Between media criminology and state racism: the dj Rennan da Penha case

Resumo: Back in 2019, the DJ Rennan da Penha has been accused of being part of a drug dealing association within the Complexo do Alemão. This paper aims to analyze the reverberation caused by the mediatic coverage that has involved the DJ’s arrest. The material used in this paper can be found on corporate and alternative news websites, and the study has been done using the Foucauldian discourse analysis. As a result, it is shown that the corporative media stablishes a mediatic criminology, since they build labels that back up stereotypes on black and poor individuals in Brazil. On the other hand, alternative media establishes critical discourses that bring the attention to subjects, such as, racism of state, necropolitics and epistemicide.

Em 2019, o DJ Rennan da Penha foi acusado de associação ao tráfico de drogas no Complexo do Alemão. Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a reverberação da cobertura midiática que envolveu a prisão do DJ. Os materiais dessa pesquisa concentram-se em sites de notícias das mídias corporativas e alternativas, cujo estudo foi realizado através do emprego da análise de discurso foucaultiana. Como resultado de pesquisa, tem-se que as mídias corporativas estabelecem uma criminologia midiática, uma vez que constroem rótulos e etiquetas que corroboram com o reforço de estereótipos de indivíduos pretos e pobres no Brasil. Por outro lado, as mídias alternativas estabelecem discursos críticos que vão ao encontro de conceitos como racismo de Estado, necropolítica e epistemicídio.
