Analyzing Translation Activities in the Book English please! Fast track: a Proposal for Redesign of Instructional Tasks

Resumo: The objective is to analyse, under the functionalist perspective, translation activities in the textbooks. This research aims to analyze the translation exercises included in the material English Please! Fast Track under the light of the functionalist theory of Nord (2009, 2010, 2012, 2016), Reiss and Vermeer (1996). Thus, based on the functionalist proposal, it was evident that the translation exercises analyzed lacked sufficient information regarding place, gender, time, functions of the source text and the cultures involved in the process to generate a real communicative act. In response, functionalist theory presents a detailed guide to the pre-translational process that will help English teachers design and evaluate translation materials with clear structured to achieve communicative purposes for students. After the result of the analysis, we have presented, based upon the functionalist perspective of translation, proposals for the recontextualization of these activities.

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar, bajo una perspectiva funcionalista, los ejercicios de traducción en los libros didácticos. Esta investigación analizó los ejercicios de traducción, presentes en el libro didáctico English Please! Fast Track, para la enseñanza de inglés, bajo la luz del funcionalismo de Nord (2009, 2010, 2012, 2016), Reiss y Vermeer (1996). Con esta base, se evidenció que los ejercicios de traducción analizados carecían de información suficiente con respecto al lugar, género, tiempo, funciones del texto base y de las culturas envueltas en el proceso, para generar un acto comunicativo. En contraste, la teoría funcionalista presenta una guía detallada del proceso pre traslativo que ayudará a los profesores de inglés a diseñar y a evaluar materiales de traducción con un propósito comunicativo claro y estructurado para los alumnos. Por fin, tras los resultados obtenidos, presentamos una reelaboración de las actividades, teniendo en cuenta la perspectiva funcional.O objetivo desse trabalho é analisar, sob o viés funcionalista, os exercícios de tradução nos livros didáticos. Esta pesquisa analisou os exercícios de tradução, presentes no livro didático English Please! Fast Track, para o ensino de inglês, à luz do funcionalismo de Nord (2009, 2010, 2012, 2016), Reiss e Vermeer (1996). A partir de tais pressupostos teóricos, constatou-se que os exercícios de tradução analisados ​​necessitavam de informações sobre lugar, gênero, época, funções do texto base e culturas envolvidas no processo, para a configuração de uma situação comunicativa. Em contrapartida, a teoria funcionalista apresenta um guia detalhado para o processo de pré-tradução, que ajudará os professores de inglês a elaborar e avaliar materiais de tradução, com uma finalidade comunicativa clara e estruturada para os alunos. Após o resultado da análise das questões, apresentamos, com base na perspectiva funcional da tradução, propostas de recontextualização das atividades analisadas.
