Key performance indicators for hospital management: perceptions of public health managers in the southeastern region of Brazil

Resumo: | Brazilian public management in the health area has undergone several changes and the search for managerial performance tools that enable greater efficiency and effective results has had a greater prominence. Given the above, the objective of this study was to demonstrate the perception and experiences of public health managers about choice criteria, benefits and challenges in the use of key performance indicators in the hospital setting. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study of qualitative approach developed with professionals who work in public hospitals in the southeastern region of Brazil. The data were collected through individual interviews with managers and analyzed by the content analysis methodology. The sample consisted of 11 professionals who presented a practical context of how this management tool can guide better decision-making and the challenges that are constantly faced. |

Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, el objetivo de este estudio era demostrar la percepción y las experiencias de los gestores de la sanidad pública sobre los criterios de elección, los beneficios y los retos en el uso de los indicadores clave de rendimiento en el ámbito hospitalario. Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, transversal y de enfoque cualitativo desarrollado con profesionales que trabajan en hospitales públicos de la región sudeste de Brasil. Los datos se recopilaron a través de entrevistas individuales con los gestores y se analizaron mediante la metodología de análisis de contenido. La muestra estuvo formada por 11 profesionales que presentaron un contexto práctico de cómo esta herramienta de gestión puede orientar a una mejor toma de decisiones y los retos a los que se enfrentan constantemente.A gestão pública brasileira na área da saúde passou por diversas mudanças e a busca por ferramentas gerenciais de desempenho que possibilite obter maior eficiência e resultados efetivos tiveram um maior destaque. Diante do exposto o objetivo deste estudo foi demonstrar a percepção e experiências de gestores públicos de saúde sobre critérios de escolha, benefícios e desafios na utilização de indicadores-chave de desempenho no âmbito hospitalar. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, transversal de abordagem qualitativa desenvolvido com profissionais que atuam em hospitais públicos da região sudeste do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevistas individuais com os gestores e analisados pela metodologia análise de conteúdo.
