Graffiti in the central area of Brasilia: spatial challenges and disputed narratives

Resumo: Graffiti are cultural expressions that have taken the scene of cities around the world. It is a contemporary phenomenon that generally raises polemics, contradictions and conflicts, revealing the threshold character of this practice of urban intervention, which oscillates between legality and illegality, art and vandalism, the public and the private. It is understood that, in Brasília, graffiti faces a spatial challenge for its realization. In this article I seek to discuss the different dynamics of the imposition of graffiti in the territory understood as the Central Zone of the Plano Piloto, where is located the political and administrative center of the capital. For that, I make use of an interdisciplinary bibliography that deals with the theme, approached in dialogue with photographs of graffiti to illustrate the presented discussion.

Es un fenómeno contemporáneo que generalmente suscita polémicas, contradicciones y conflictos, revelando el carácter de umbral de esta práctica de intervención urbana, que oscila entre la legalidad y la ilegalidad, el arte y el vandalismo, lo público y lo privado. Se entiende que, en Brasilia, el graffiti enfrenta un desafío espacial para su realización. En este artículo busco discutir las diferentes dinámicas de imposición de los grafitis en el territorio entendido como la Zona Central del Plano Piloto, que alberga el centro político y administrativo de la capital. Para ello, hago uso de una bibliografía interdisciplinaria que trata el tema, abordada en diálogo con fotografías de grafitis como forma de ilustrar la discusión presentada.Grafites são expressões culturais que têm tomado o cenário de cidades em todo o mundo. Trata-se de um fenômeno contemporâneo que geralmente suscita polêmicas, contradições e conflitos, reveladores do caráter limiar dessa prática de intervenção urbana, que oscila entre a legalidade e a ilegalidade, a arte e o vandalismo, o público e o privado. Entende-se que, em Brasília, o grafite encontra um desafio espacial para a sua realização. Neste artigo busco discutir as diferentes dinâmicas da imposição de grafites no território compreendido como Zona Central do Plano Piloto, que abriga o centro político e administrativo da capital.
