O tema foi escolhido por interesse pessoal do autor nessa temática, por considerar relevante para os bibliotecários e por perceber a pouca produção de monografias, dissertações de mestrado e doutorado sobre o assunto abordado. Buscou-se apresentar um panorama geral sobre a história das escolas no Brasil e sua função na formação do cidadão e colocou-se também o que se entende como biblioteca, com o foco na biblioteca escolar, para entender qual seu papel dentro da comunidade no qual está inserida e algumas mudanças que venham a inovar esse espaço. Tem como objetivo conhecer a atuação dos bibliotecários na função de educador nas escolas privadas de Brasília, Distrito Federal. Como instrumento de coleta de dados utiliza-se uma entrevista a fim de conhecer como o bibliotecário atua como educador por meio de relatos dos bibliotecários e com isso evidencia que o bibliotecário tem consciência da sua importância em seu papel como educador dentro da biblioteca escolar utilizando de suas competências profissionais e pessoais para melhor conhecer e entender as necessidades de seus usuários.
