Study about the importance of storytelling realized in projects of literature, with the objective of to analyze the contribution of children's literature in the cognitive development of child, by means of investigation from the Literature Project from the Library of the Serviço Social do Comércio (SESC) Doca, in the state of Pará. It is a bibliographical and exploratory research about of the literature child and your contribution to child development, and of the various forms of literature dissemination. With qualitative approach. Case study is accomplished, being evaluated the Literature Project of the Library of SESC Doca, in the municipality of Belém / Pará, by means of interviews with those involved in the project. The results point for the advantages that the project provides the children, having positive evaluation of the interviewees in relation to the initiative of the Library SESC Doca by provide the community: knowledge, information and entertainment, with highlight the children's which react favorably to the project meetings. It is concluded that the Literature Project of SESC Doca has contributed to the cognitive development of children participating in the Project, ratifying the importance of this type of project.
