Resumo: The textbook is a great instrument for disseminating ideas at school and for building new concepts. In order to discuss the representation of blacks in the National Book and Didactic Material Plan, PNLD, this paper presents a theoretical framework on stereotypes and racial insults, with the aim of highlighting the challenges of Brazilian social dynamics, as well as addressing public education policies of Portuguese language and literature in light of the implementation of Federal Laws 10,639/2003 and 11,645/2008, as federal government actions to combat racism and promote affirmative education regarding racial and ethnic relations in basic education schools in the country. Finally, the representation of black people in literary texts in textbooks is discussed. This research is exploratory with bibliographical and documentary review procedures, with a qualitative-interpretative approach in accordance with the reflections of Roger Chartier, Jeanne Marie Gagnebin, Judith Butler, Stuart Hall, among others. Although it seeks to give a voice to black men and women, through compliance with laws, the textbooks maintain a Eurocentric and ethnocentric approach, making them small in the eyes of students and teachers. Imagetically, the number of times in which the white woman and the white man are represented in textbooks far exceed the black woman and the black man, projecting and concretizing the colonialist hierarchical social imaginary and perpetuated in the school environment.
