This article aimed at problematizing the limits and possibilities of democratic management, from the creation of a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), analyzing its autonomy, participation, transparency, and pluralism, during the planning, execution, and evaluation of the activities developed, as well as the decisions taken together with the collegiate bodies. Its methodology had a qualitative approach, guided by the research-action. It is believed that this research managed to raise in the subjects, the interest in the participation of the school’s actions, expanding its performance. The final product was the elaboration of the Statute of the APM Escola Monsenhor João Rodrigues de Carvalho. Thus, this research may be relevant for other institutions to make their practices more democratic, through the community’s action, within the school environment.
