Resumo Este artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre o exercício de poder no interior da comunidade de prática cujo domínio é a Educação Estatística. Surgida no contexto de uma pesquisa sobre a formação Estatística do professor de Matemática, ela ressalta e discute a existência de relações de poder desenvolvidas pelas comunidades de prática envolvidas nesta formação. Esta reflexão é relevante, visto que as pessoas que produzem conhecimento nesta área parecem ter dificuldades de exercer plenamente esse poder, já que há duas vertentes na Educação Estatística: uma oriunda da Educação e a outra da Estatística / Matemática. A pesquisa evidenciou que o poder se exerce pelo conhecimento e através de relações emancipatórias, concluindo-se que na Educação Estatística deve-se buscar o equilíbrio entre o conhecimento da Educação e o da Estatística / Matemática. Statistics Education and Power Relations in Communities of Practice Abstract This paper presents a reflection on the exercise of power within the community of practice whose domain is Statistics Education. Addressing issues that arose in the context of research on the statistical training received by mathematics teachers, the focus is on the existence of power relations developed by communities of practice involved in this training. This reflection is relevant because those who produce knowledge in this area seem to have difficulty to fully exercise this power, as there are two strands in Statistics Education: one originating from the field of Education and the other from Statistics / Mathematics. Since the research demonstrated that power is exercised by knowledge and through emancipator relationships, it is concluded that Statistics Education should seek a balance between knowledge of Education and Statistics /Mathematics.
