Resumo: This research was developed in a ethnographic perspective, trough behavior observation of children from the alphabetization class to the 4th grade of the primary education, who used to play in recreational environments at the Center of Integral Attention to the Child - CAIC Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro. It was verified that children separated, preferably, by sex, however the younger boys and girls played together. This organization gradually changes with increasing in age, until they are completely separated at the 4th grade. Usually the girls were excluded from the soccer game, preferred by the boys, and played of jump rope and other “girl games”. It was verified that many teachers, when they interfered in the games and plays, reinforced the children separation by sex. It can be concluded that the school favors the sexism, reinforcing it through attitudes, words and rituals that prints in the children the separation idea.
