Influence of specific resistance training on functional and anthropometric aspects of young men

Resumo: The aim of the study was to evaluate functional and anthropometric responses to two strength training protocols in young men. Volunteers were divided into two experimental groups: Local muscular resistance (RML) (3x20 repetition supporting 40% of 1 RM) and Muscular Hypertrophy (HM) (3x10 repetition supporting 80% of 1 RM). Exercise program was conducted during nine weeks. Upper and lower limbs maximal strength and anthropometric parameters were evaluated. At the end of the experimental period no significant anthropometric differences were observed. However, in lower limbs exercises, both resistance exercise programs improved muscle strength. It was conclude that resistance physical training did not change muscle mass content, and the strength gains observed can be due to improvements of muscle coordination.

Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos experimentais: Resistência Muscular Localizada (RML) (3x20 repetições com 40% de 1 RM) e Hipertrofia Muscular (HM) (3x10 com 80% de 1 RM). O programa de exercícios foi conduzido por nove semanas. Foi avaliada a carga máxima e a antropometria dos membros superiores e inferiores. Ao final do período experimental não foram observados efeitos do tempo ou do tipo de treinamento sobre os aspectos antropométricos. Contudo, nos exercícios para membros inferiores, ambos os programas de exercício resistido aumentaram a força muscular.
