Resumo: This article intends to present some thoughts about the use of criminal justice archives and police papers as source for historical research. It presents arguments from researches that embrace the use of the judicial archives through different methodological approaches. It is scope of this article as well to analyze the discursive idiosyncrasies that construct the judicial documents within its origins, as well as point out the peculiarities of the use of police documents.
