Resumo: This article presents some results of the project entitled "The use and appropriation of ICT by family agriculture in the Vale do Caí-RS", financed by the edict of MCTI/CNPq, FAPERGS and UNISC. The objective of this article was to outline the socioeconomic profile of family farmers and to analyze the use and appropriation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by family farmers in the Vale do Caí. Eight municipalities with the largest number of family farming establishments were selected, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 375 family farmers. The data were tabulated through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and analyzed from simple statistical treatment and content analysis. It has been verified that family farmers analyzed have access to ICT. However, the use and dissemination of knowledge and technologies by global access to information network still represents a challenge to be overcome in the region.

El objetivo de este trabajo consistió en trazar el perfil socioeconómico de los agricultores familiares y analizar el uso y la apropiación de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) por los agricultores familiares en el Valle del Caí. Se eligieron ocho municipios que presentaban el mayor número de establecimiento de agricultura familiares y se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con 375 agricultores familiares. Los datos se tabularon usando el paquete estadístico Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) y se analizaron a partir de un tratamiento estadístico simple y análisis de contenido. Se descubrió que los agricultores familiares analizados tienen acceso a las TIC, aunque el uso y la difusión del conocimiento y las tecnologías por parte de la red mundial de acceso a la información todavía representa un desafío que debe superarse en la región.Neste artigo apresentam-se alguns resultados do Projeto intitulado “O uso e a apropriação de TIC pela agricultura familiar do Vale do Caí-RS”, financiado pelo edital do MCTI/CNPq, pela FAPERGS e pela UNISC. O objetivo deste artigo consistiu-se em traçar o perfil socioeconômico dos agricultores familiares e analisar o uso e a apropriação das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação – TIC – pelos agricultores familiares do Vale do Caí. Elegeu-se oito municípios que apresentavam o maior número de estabelecimentos de agricultura familiar e realizou-se entrevistas semiestruturadas com 375 agricultores familiares. Os dados foram tabulados através do Programa Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) e analisados a partir de tratamento estatístico simples e análise de conteúdo.
