The article aims to present the history of the Maria da Penha Law , showing it as a result of the struggle of women for a more forceful legislation against impunity on the national scene of domestic violence . Furthermore , it explains the main articles of the law and what were their contributions and advances to the Brazilian law. However , despite the law it is widely publicized and known by the population , in practice it is failure as its actual effectiveness and applicability in the city of Marilia -SP and other cities. The difficulties and obstacles to its implementation are of a material nature and human resources , as well as cultural factors and gender representations rooted in the mentality of those who are or were responsible for the enforcement of law and public policies to combat violence against women.
