Resumo: This paper aims to elucidate the methodological challenge within research focused on digital humanities, which consists of dealing with the intersection between computational methodologies and methodologies of human sciences, adapting already known methodologies and creating new methods that fit new contexts. For this purpose, we started with the exploratory example of the entries “Conservatism” and “Conservatism on Wikipedia” in an attempt to sketch a map of Brazilian social thought on the web, in which the methodology of network analysis and the theory of social reflexivity were used in order to understand the relationship between Big Data and society. Finally, the collected data from the digital environment in line with the social sciences’ theory point to conservatism as a response to reflexive modernity.

Finally, the collected data from the digital environment in line with the social sciences’ theory point to conservatism as a response to reflexive modernity. O presente artigo tem por objetivo elucidar o desafio metodológico dentro de pesquisas voltadas para humanidades digitais o qual consiste em lidar com a interseção entre metodologias computacionais e metodologias das disciplinas de Humanidades, adaptar as metodologias já existentes e criar novos métodos que se adequem a  novos contextos. Para este fim, partiu-se do exemplo exploratório dos verbetes “Conservadorismo” e “Conservadorismo na Wikipédia” numa tentativa de esboçar um mapeamento do pensamento social brasileiro na web, em que fez-se uso da metodologia de análise de redes e da teoria da reflexividade social a fim de compreender a relação entre Big Data e sociedade. Por fim, os dados coletados do meio digital alinhados à teoria das ciências sociais apontam para o conservadorismo como resposta à modernidade reflexiva.
