Resumo: ABSTRACT In this text we will discuss the thematic Sign Language Writing (SLW) emphasizing the importance of the acquisition of the writing and reading of the Sign Language (SL) in the process of learning the visual (deaf), considering the benefits provided by this learning. Thus, our objective is to present the sign writing (ES) as a fundamental learning for the cognitive development of the visual, for the formation of the identity and autonomy of these subjects and for the linguistic development of the learners of the LS. To this end, we will present a general overview of the ES: origin, viability, benefits, existing systems, especially in Brazil. Methodologically, this is a bibliographic research of qualitative- exploratory approach based on: Stumpf (2001; 2005); Barros (2008; 2015); Lessa- de-Oliveira (2012); Barreto and Barreto (2012; 2015) and Benassi (2017; 2019). Thus, we hope with this work to disseminate knowledge that contributes to the formation of teachers, students and  other professionals of the area and of all who aspire to an inclusive education. Consequently, we also hope that they promote changes in attitudes in those who have attributed negative meaning to this knowledge. Keywords: Learning. Sign Language Writing (SLW). Visual Subject.
