Environmental education and sustainability: a path to sustainable economic development?

Resumo: | In this theoretical reflection, it is argued about the relationship between sustainability and sustainable economic development, mediated by environmental education. Considering that the sustainability concept involves the social, political, and economic dimensions and that environmental education corresponds to a formative process facing socio-environmental issues, the relationship between them is sought for sustainable economic development. For this, the historical context of human relations, the birth of the concept of sustainability, and their incorporation in the Classical Economics and Neoclassical Environmental Economics perspectives are discussed. The design of the relationship between sustainability and economic development is then grounded by the perspectives of environmental education, with a focus on sustainability. In this dialectic, questions arise about environmental education for sustainability and reflections on paths to sustainable development. |

In this dialectic, questions arise about environmental education for sustainability and reflections on paths to sustainable development.En esta reflexión teórica, se argumenta sobre la relación entre sostenibilidad y desarrollo económico sostenible, mediada por la educación ambiental. Considerando que el concepto de sostenibilidad involucra las dimensiones social, política y económica y que la educación ambiental corresponde a un proceso formativo frente a las cuestiones socioambientales, se busca la relación entre ellas para el desarrollo económico sostenible. Para ello, se discute el contexto histórico de las relaciones humanas y el nacimiento del concepto de sostenibilidad y su incorporación en las perspectivas de la Economía Clásica y la Economía Ambiental Neoclásica. El diseño de la relación entre sostenibilidad y desarrollo económico se fundamenta en las perspectivas de la educación ambiental, con un enfoque centrado en la sostenibilidad. En esta dialéctica, surgen cuestiones sobre la educación ambiental para la sostenibilidad y reflexiones sobre las vías hacia el desarrollo sostenible.Na presente reflexão teórica, argumenta-se sobre a relação entre a sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento econômico sustentável, mediados pela educação ambiental. Considerando que o conceito de sustentabilidade envolve as dimensões sociais, políticas e econômicas e que a educação ambiental corresponde a um processo formativo frente às questões socioambientais, procura-se a relação entre elas para um desenvolvimento econômico sustentável. Para isso, discorre-se acerca do contexto histórico das relações humanas, o nascimento do conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável e sobre a incorporação deste conceito nas perspectivas da Economia Clássica e da Economia Ambiental Neoclássica. O desenho da relação entre a sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento econômico é, então, fundamentado pelas perspectivas da educação ambiental, com enfoque na sustentabilidade.
