“CIMO movie seat follows the cinema history”: the contribution of the Móveis CIMO S.A. factory to the film exhibition market in São Paulo (1940-1950)

Resumo: | The study of movie theater venues, as an object of research, is a field to be explored with more acuity from the 1980s onwards. Some recent research involve the cinema space and its relationship with the creation and development of a national industry to replace a substantially expensive and not very advantageous import of required apparatus for the activity. Movie furniture, in this sense, is an important element in the history of film exhibition: it is one of the most expensive investments of the movie theater, taking into account the number of seats, in addition to indicating it as an instrument of distinction in space, as well as the articulation with themes such as design and comfort. This paper discusses the contribution of Móveis CIMO S.A. to the Brazilian film exhibition market during the 1940s and 1950s, based on what was published in the press in advertisements and news articles. |

Algumas pesquisas recentes envolvem o espaço do cinema e a relação com a criação e o desenvolvimento de uma indústria nacional para substituir uma importação expressivamente cara e pouco vantajosa de equipamentos necessários à atividade. O mobiliário para cinema, nesse sentido, é um elemento importante da história da exibição: é um dos investimentos mais caros da sala de cinema, levando em conta o número de poltronas, além de indicar instrumentos de distinção no espaço, assim como a articulação com temas como o design e conforto.
