This is an excerpt from the research which investigates the use of the pedagogical press in the dissemination of representations in the context of the rural school. It seeks to identify the influence of pedagogical ruralism on the practices of rural communities in Caxias do Sul-RS. The study's problematization revolves around the meanings made possible by the journal around the disseminated prescriptions. The object of the study - the Despertar was produced by the teaching agency of that locality, between the years 1947 and 1954. The research methodology was the historical documentary analysis; and, the theoretical contribution was based in Cultural History on the concepts of representation. As a result, the understanding that the Despertar was a strategy for the propagation of agreed guidelines to the ruralist precepts, that evidenced expectations of the municipal management in relation to the transformation of the practices in those localities.
