Resumo: The aim of this article is to analyze the work Guia da Mulher pejada, written by physician José Ricardo Pires de Almeida (1843-1913). It was first published in the press in 1881 and in book format in 1884. This work was aimed at expectant women, that is, in a state of pregnancy and had the intention of offering medical information so that they could maintain the pregnancy in a healthy way. Thus, based on the concept of scientific vulgarization, some excerpts from the work were selected for analysis, in which the relationship between science, medicine and women in nineteenth-century Brazil will be reflected.

Foi publicada inicialmente na imprensa em 1881 e em formato de livro no ano de 1884. Esta obra era direcionada para as mulheres pejadas, ou seja, em estado de gravidez e possuía o intuito de oferecer informações médicas para que pudessem manter a gestação de forma saudável.
