The role of professor/trainer in consolidating the professional choice for teaching during initial training

Resumo: | This article aims to analyze the reasons underlying the choice of teaching qualification in two different moments, as well as the role of university professors in consolidating the choice for teaching. This study consists of an exploratory research conducted with undergraduate students in Biological Sciences from a public university. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire applied to 57 students, addressing their social and educational characteristics and the reasons for their professional choice, and by a semi-structured interview with eight of these students. The results indicate that 28 students stated not wanting to be a teacher at admission, decreasing to three at the time of the questionnaire application; 21 were still unsure about it. Seven of the eight interviewees defended the importance of the professor, their pedagogical practices, and the relationship with students in the consolidation of the choice during teaching qualification. Professors’ actions have a strong influence on students’ will for teaching, even when the initial choice for the course was only a strategy for accessing higher education. |

Professors’ actions have a strong influence on students’ will for teaching, even when the initial choice for the course was only a strategy for accessing higher education.Este artículo tiene como propósitos: analizar el motivo de la elección por la carrera de profesorado en dos momentos distintos e identificar el papel que desempeñan los profesores formadores del profesorado en la consolidación de las elecciones para la docencia. Para lograr estos objetivos, se realizó una investigación exploratoria con estudiantes de la carrera de ciencias biológicas de una universidad pública brasileña, utilizando un cuestionario y una entrevista como instrumentos de recolección de datos. Los 57 estudiantes respondieron un cuestionario sobre sus características sociales, escolares y los motivos de su elección profesional, y 08 (ocho) de estos participaron en entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los datos mostraron un cambio en el número de estudiantes que manifestaron no querer ser docentes: cuando ingresaron al curso 28 y en la aplicación del cuestionario, solo 3 dijeron no tener la docencia como perspectiva profesional, mientras que 21 aún estaban indecisos al respecto. La investigación mostró que 07 (siete) de los 08 (ocho) entrevistados defendieron la importancia del papel del profesor universitario, de sus prácticas pedagógicas y de la relación con los estudiantes en la consolidación de la elección por la docencia durante la carrera. La conclusión es que las acciones de los docentes influyen mucho en la consolidación de una elección por la enseñanza, incluso cuando la elección inicial fue solo una estrategia de acceso a la educación superior.Este artigo tem duplo propósito: analisar a razão da escolha pelo curso de licenciatura em dois momentos distintos e o papel que os professores formadores da licenciatura exercem na consolidação da escolha pela docência. Para o alcance desses objetivos foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória com estudantes do curso de Ciências Biológicas de uma universidade pública, utilizando-se questionário e entrevista como instrumentos de coleta de dados. Cinquenta e sete estudantes responderam a um questionário sobre suas características sociais e escolares e sobre os motivos da escolha profissional, e 8 deles participaram de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os dados evidenciaram uma alteração na quantidade de estudantes que afirmavam não desejar ser professor: ao ingressar no curso, 28, e no momento da realização do questionário apenas 3 afirmaram não terem o magistério como perspectiva profissional, enquanto 21 ainda estavam indecisos a esse respeito. A pesquisa mostrou que 7 dos 8 entrevistados defenderam a importância do papel do professor universitário, de suas práticas pedagógicas e da relação com os alunos na consolidação da escolha pela docência no decorrer do curso de licenciatura.
